About Us:

The Sunshine Food and Clothing Closet was founded as a collaboration between the Galt Elementary School District, five Faith Based Organizations (Galt United Methodist Church, St. Christophers, Horizon, St. Luke and Family Life) and a diverse group of community members.  We are completely staffed by volunteers and strive to support the needs of families impacted by the economic crisis.  The Sunshine Food and Clothing Closet provides free gently used clothing and monthly food baskets to families in need on a referral basis. On average, we serve 30 to 40 families weekly and these numbers continue to increase.

No Malaria PosterNothing But Nets

Nothing But Nets is a global, grassroots campaign to raise awareness and funding to combat malaria, one of the largest killers of children in Africa. With a $10 contribution, Nothing But Nets provides individuals – from CEOs to youth, professional athletes to faith leaders – the opportunity to join the global fight against malaria by sending a net and saving a life. In one weekend, a Galt United Methodist Church small group raised $750 standing in front of groceries stores.  For more information on Nothing But Nets Campaign go to: http://www.nothingbutnets.net/

Youth

The Galt United Methodist Church Youth started a tradition this year to spend a week every summer doing service through Sierra Service Project. The Sierra Service Project (SSP) is a non-profit organization providing life-changing experiences through acts of service repairing homes in Native American and urban communities and building homes in Honduras.  They invite high school age youth and young adults to experience the profound power of serving people who have a culture and life experience different from their own.

Each summer, approximately 1,500 teenagers, 250 adult volunteers and over 40 paid summer staff live, worship and work together on six different project sites.  Together, their work results in over 130 safer, drier and more comfortable homes.

To find out more about this service project through Galt United Methodist Church contact Pastor Helen at (209) 745-4133 or at galtumc@gmail.com.  To find out more about Sierra Service Project go to their web site: http://www.sierraserviceproject.org/
